Environmental Laws

The firm has appeared or appearing in a large number of matters relating to environmental law before the Supreme Court of India, NGT, Delhi High Court etc. These matters relate to diverse fields including mining, nuclear power plant, sugar mills, ports, construction projects etc. These involve various laws and notifications including CRZ Notifications, Environment Protection Act, Air and Water Act, Forest (Conservation) Act, Wildlife (Protection) Act etc.


The firm is currently representing Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd with respect to the environment clearance for their Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant. We have also been representing NPCIL before NGT, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court.


We are appearing for Vedanta Limited with respect to their copper plant in Tamil Nadu. It is appearing in large number of environment related disputes from forest approvals to building of malls, river cleaning. It advises Deen Dayal Port Trust with respect to their numerous environment issues.


Notably, the firm has represented Bharti Group (Airtel) before the Supreme Court in relation to clearance of the Vasant Kunj Mall. The firm has also represented the Delhi Development Authority in the dispute regarding the Commonwealth Games site vis-à-vis disruption of the Yamuna river bed. The firm has represented Deendayal Port Trust in various matters involving environmental issues.


The firm also has several matters before the “Forest Bench” of the Supreme Court, and its clients include Associations of Sawmill Owners in Maharashtra, Association of manufacturers of sandalwood and sandalwood oil in North India, Orissa Sponge Iron Ltd. (Public-private partnership company) etc. The firm was also representing mining companies like Chowgule and Co and Shantipriya Minerals Ltd. in Bellary mining dispute in Supreme Court.


The firm is also appearing in a pending case on behalf of the Consumer Education Research Society asking for delineation of a buffer zone around the Narayan Sarovar wildlife sanctuary wherein all mining activity is to be prohibited. The firm has appeared in the landmark case pertaining to ban on use of plastic sachets for gutkha, pan masala etc. The firm has represented Dhariwal Industries in their application for Export Oriented Unit.
